Migration and Health

According to United Nations data, in 2015 the estimated number of migrants, globally, was just below 250 million (UN DESA, 2015). The links between migration and health are significant and complex. Additionally, many social determinants of health are also social determinants of migration.

GloMHI Vision

Health for all, regardless of birthplace.

GloMHI Mission

Promote and support applied research, advocacy, and social entrepreneurship initiatives to:
  • understand migration as a social determinant of health and explore causes, characteristics, associated lived experiences, and impact of migration;
  • advocate for all people to live a meaningful life and participate equally in society, regardless of birthplace;
  • adopt/adapt/develop solutions, resources, and services aimed at improving the health status of migrants, their families, and their original and new communities, globally.
