An article published by the Guardian, highlights how millions of people will be displaced in the next decade as a result of climate change, creating the worlds 'biggest refugee crisis'.
The article refers to a report by the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF), which claims that climate change had a role in the build up to the Syrian war, as droughts resulted in 1.5 million people to migrate to the country. While the report emphasizes the impact of climate change on Africa and the Middle East, it also discusses how severe weather changes-such as the recent hurricanes in the US-demonstrate how wealthy countries are not unaffected by climate change. EJF executive director, Steve Trent, stated: “In our rapidly changing world climate change – and its potential to trigger both violent conflict and mass migration – needs to be considered as an urgent priority for policymakers and business leaders alike.”
